World Bank tasked on projects implementation in Imo State

The Imo State Government has urged the World Bank authorities to introduce more people- oriented projects in the state in order to afford it the opportunity to participate in them.

The deputy governor of the state, Eze Madumere, stated this yesterday in Owerri, while receiving the bank’s team at the Govrrnment House, Owerri. He regretted that out of 35 projects marked by the bank, only four were being carried out in the state, calling for more.

According to him, the state government has the capacity to participate in the projects if involved. Madumere, assured that the state would access the funds meant for the bank in the state, noting that Governor Rochas Okorocha , had done things humanly possible to make the state tourist attraction centres, urging them to use their period of the stay to visit some of the centres.

The project coordinator, public sector corporate reform and development project for the state, Richard Obi Chioma, said they were in the state for projects assessment mission on projects in order to chat a new course for the state.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Mbata, noted that the visit was a welcome development which would make his ministry work in tandem with the World Bank, ensuring that the right things were done.

The team leader, Ikechukwu Nweje, said the visit was on implementation support business for the bank. He commended the state government for complying with the terms on the implementation of the projects, to ensure that the 22 per cent meant for the state was achieved.

Present at the visit were the Principal Secretary to the deputy governor, Nze Obinna Aharanwa, state Auditor General, Anthony Kamalu, the Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, Henrietta Jacobs and Acting Director General, Public Procurement, Price and Intelligent, Mrs. Chiaka Mbajunwa and other state government officials.
