Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has presented Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to two first set of qualified manufacturers in Gombe State.

Presenting the certificates, in Gombe recently, the State Coordinator, Umar Yakubu, identified the companies as Abba Bakery, and Atlantis Table Water Nig. NTD.

He said the manufacturers demonstrated conformity to the relevant standards of the organization, adding: “This means their products are safe for us to consume.”

He advised the management of the factories to double their efforts to maintain the quality of their products, as “having the certificate is one thing, and the ability to sustain it in terms of quality, safety and performance, is another thing.

“So it is a big challenge for you because quality is the journey that has no end. The certificate is being loaned to you for a period of three years; after three years, we are going to assess the quality of the products to see if you are still on top of the game,” he said.

According to Yakubu, if they were found wanting, the tendency is to withdraw the certificates, noting that among the benefits of the certificate are easy to access to the market nationally and internally, and build consumers’ confidence for attaining the quality.

He, therefore, called on other factories to obtain their own certification, as it is mandatory, and some have already commenced the process.

Managing Director, Atlantis Tablewater, Abubakar Adamu, commended SON and assured to maintain products standard, adding that the certificate is a testimony of the company’s belief in purity and quality.

Also speaking, Managing Director, Abba Bakery, Muhammad Haruna, assured of consistency in maintaining the bread quality, adding that the certificate would enable them to put in more effort to enhance the quality.
