The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has reiterated that the nation’s hope of economic revival and diversification hinges on the growth of entrepreneurship ideas, which would form basis for development.

He however, commended the enterprising spirit of many Nigerians, whose ideas have resulted in employment opportunities and contributions to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, as well as Ernst&Young (EY) for supporting their growth and development.

Osinbajo made the observations at the yearly EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in West Africa, where nine chief executives, representing their respective companies in Nigeria and Ghana were shortlisted for Master and Emerging categories of awards by EY.

The Vice President, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Trade, Industry and Investment, Dr. Olajumoke Oduwole, said the administration is determined to fight the current economic challenges facing the country and restore it back to glory.

Identifying the diversification of the economy as pertinent now, he said that the only way to be successful is to create cohesion of activities of entrepreneurs and support their cause.

But EY Country Leader and Regional Managing Partner for West Africa, Henry Egbiki, said: “The EY Entrepreneur of The Year award was instituted to recognize and celebrate unique sets of men and women in West Africa who use their entrepreneurial energy and passion to change the world through creating job opportunities.

“Over the years we find that one of the most exciting places where entrepreneurial spirit is alive is across Africa. We at EY will continue to celebrate entrepreneurs in our own little way.”

The EOY leader in West Africa, Bunmi Akinde, added: “As the entrepreneurs continue to reshape our world with their innovation, energy and challenging status quo, they create economic and social value anywhere we look and that is why they are a good gift for the EY brand, because at EY, we are committed to building a better working world.”

At the event, two Ghanaian companies- Kasapreko Limited and Kinapharma Limited, represented by their Chief executives, Kwabena Adjei and Kofi Nsiah-Poku, won the two awards- Master and Emerging categories respectively.
