NPA begins enforcement, implementation of minimum standards for trucks
As part of measures to uphold and ensure minimum safety standards for trucks entering the ports, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Habib Abdullahi has called on all stakeholders in the maritime Industry to show support and understanding.
Abdullahi made the call while flagging off the enforcement and implementation of minimum standards for all trucks doing business at Western Ports.
Earlier in his address, the General Manager, Western Ports, Chief Michael Ajayi explained that the enforcement of registration and implementation of minimum standards for all trucks was aimed at achieving major objectives, which include:
*The opportunity of data collection for planning purpose;
*Facilitation/identification of every truck to prevent sharp practices;
*Compliance with the ISPS Code and
*Serve as platform to ensure the minimum standard for truck entering the port in compliance with International safety standards.
According to him, information concerning the registration number, ownership address and annual sticker’s number issued would be made available on NPA Portal to advise Terminal Operators and clearing agents on the trucks that are cleared to access the ports.
