THE Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has applauded the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) for stressing the necessity for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government to urgently set up dedicated insurance desks that are manned by qualified insurance practitioners.

The Commissioner for Insurance, Alhaji Mohammed Kari had made this call during a meeting he held with the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) in Abuja.
The President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Kayode Okunoren said that the call by NAICOM would further grow the Insurance Industry in Nigeria and assist strategic agencies of government to benefit from opportunities of risk mitigation provided by the insurance industry.

Hestated that the prudential disposition of the current administration would not be complete without adequate attention directed at engaging the insurance industry, in order to return the economy to vibrancy while stressing the bugging challenge of late payment and non budgetary allocations by some MDAs for insurance placement.

The NCRIB President implored other large non-governmental organizations to also create insurance desk that would be manned by qualified insurance professionals.

In a related development, NCRIB has applauded the government of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode for appointing Dr. Mustapha Akinkunmi as Commissioner for Finance.

Okunoren described Akinkunmi as a seasoned financial expert who would bring to bear on the state financial management his robust pedigree and competence. He further applauded the Lagos State government for sustaining the heritage of being one of the most Brokers friendly state governments in Nigeria and advised other states to emulate Lagos State by making insurance pivotal of their financial cum economic thrust.
