Microsoft, Gr8jobsng identify aptitude of Five-Star employee

Towards reducing youth unemployment and unemployability in the country, Microsoft and Gr8jobsng have teamed up to organize a Recruitment Day job fair designed to give youths much needed access to jobs and employment opportunities.

The 2017 edition of the event tagged Land a Dream Job in a Recession and held at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja had in attendance over 400 job seekers across the country.

Welcoming participants, Ade Ajayi, director, Marketing and Operations, Microsoft, stated that the job fair is in line with Microsoft’s mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more and help reinvent the way people do things and bring about productivity.

According to him, “Youths are pivotal to the future of Nigeria and it is important for all hands to be on deck to empower them, their future and the future of the country and this is what Microsoft and Gr8jobng ​have ​collaborated to achieve.’’

He encouraged participant​s to make us​e ​of Gr8jobsng platform which runs on Microsoft Azure to improve their employability and employment chances.

Omomene Odike, MD/CEO, U-Connect Human Resources Limited and Gr8jobsng, highlighted 10 points that will help job seekers land their dream jobs. She advised against the ‘Follow the crowd’ syndrome of most applicants who fail to focus on themselves and their career choices.

“Having the right fit is very important for individuals and organizations and this is the whole essence of Recruitment Day job fair. It​ helps to ​bridge the gap between the expectations of employers and job seekers thereby helping all achieve their full potentials,” said Omomene Odike.

Speaking on Attitude and Aptitude of a 5 Star Employee, Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, founder, LEAP Africa, noted that it is imperative for employees to possess technical, academic and life skills to excel in their chosen fields.

She further mentioned that skill is one major thing employers look for in employees, adding that most employees these days become unnecessarily demanding at the expense of professionalism.

She stated that “There is a need to bridge skills gap in the country’s labour force as there is usually a disconnection between employees/employers expectations.”

Other speakers at the event include Anthony Oguike, CEO of Future Concerns Group and Chukwuedo Okolo, Head of Human Resources at Wakanow who spoke on Running a Highly Profitable Business in a Recession and What Makes an Outstanding Employee respectively.
