Lafarge Plc spends N100m on CRS in Ewekoro
Adebajo made the disclosure at the presentation of the 2015 Lafarge Africa Corporate Social Responsibility Day (CSR), held at its Ewekoro plant in Ewekoro on Sunday.
The managing director said that the gesture was part of its corporate social responsibility policy.
She recalled that the organisation commenced CSR Day for the people of Ewekoro and Sagamu Local Government Areas of Ogun in 2008, as part of its commitment to improving their living standard.
“We at Lafarge believe strongly in the principle of corporate social responsibility which encourages firms to give back to their host communities.
“We will continue to live to our billing as a socially responsible and community-focused organisation,’’ she said.
Adebajo explained that the fund was spent on rehabilitation of rural roads, provision of medical equipment, renovation of health centres and empowerment of farmers among others.
She, however, solicited continued cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly the neighbouring communities to enable the firm to deliver on its promises.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the firm distributed N100,000 cheque each to 168 Ewekoro indigent students as bursary and scholarship awards.
Responding, Mr Jide Ojuko, Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, lauded Lafarge Africa for its gesture.
He enjoined the host communities to create a conducive environment for the company to thrive so that they could enjoy more benefits.
