Labour appeals to Bayelsa government to release December pay

The Bayelsa State chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have appealed to the Bayelsa state government to pay civil servants their December salary.

The two labour central bodies noted that civil servants in the state have been having difficult times occasioned by fall in revenue accruing to the state and urged government to fulfill its obligation to enable them meet up with their financial obligations.

They also lauded the state Governor Seriake Dickson for fulfilling his promises of paying the October and November salaries in full, while calling on the various Local Government Chairmen to emulate the gesture.

A statement issued and signed by the Chairmen, John Bipre Ndiomu and Comrade Tari Dounana in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state expressed workers appreciation as the gesture has enabled workers defray part of their indebtedness occasioned by months of half salaries.

They also lauded the Governor for recognizing the sacrifices made by workers in his New Year message, noting that government should take necessary steps to cushion the effects.

The organised labour appraised Dickson’s first tenure, as among the governors that were paying workers salaries early and frequently, before the downturn of the economic fortunes, also expressed optimism that this New Year the state will go back to its good old days.

Stressing further, the leadership also appreciated and thanked their members for their sacrifices in the outgoing year, despite the challenges, called for more synergy towards a united and virile labour force.

They promised to work for the collective wellbeing of workers and chart positive frontier for industrial harmony in the state.
