AIICO strengthens agency network operations

To increase the awareness of insurance, especially at the grassroot level, AIICO Insurance Plc has canvassed penetration through agency network.

For effect, AIICO, which is keen on taking insurance to the hinterland, announced ‘Victor Owotorose’ as an independent agent for the firm.According to AIICO, the agency serves as a landmark that would foresee the future of insurance in Nigeria.

Speaking at the launching programme in Lagos, General Manager, Retail Life Business, AIICO Insurance Plc, Sola Ajayi, described the agency as maiden, which will serve as tool to drive the growth of insurance in the country.

“One of the ways insurance industry grows is through the agent recruitment process. AIICO currently has about 40 per cent of the total number of insurance agents in the country. We are continuing to invest and develop our agency workforce.

“Our plan is to reach a total number of 10,000 agents within the next two years. By 2018, we would have attained a target number of agents, which is right about total number of agents currently available in the country, he said.

According to him, AIICO Insurance is 53 years old and has been in Nigeria as an organisation that has been ensuring trans-generational transfer of wealth through one generation to another irrespective of risk that happens to people and one of the ways we do that is through our agency network.

“Victor Owotorose has been in the company for over 10 years, it takes awhile for somebody to attain the level where Victor is now. He is an agency manager, which means he is duly certified as trustworthy, capable and knowledgeable to represent AIICO anywhere in Nigeria.

Speaking on the expectation of the agency, he said: “We expect Victor’s agency to continue to train and develop people, we expect him to win new customers, create wealth for the agent by ensuring that they understand the product and the sales process, to also help customers protect their assets and wealth and to be able to transfer to future generation by prescribing the right product to them to meet their need.

Chief Learning Officer, AIICO Insurance Plc, Akshat Kuma,r described Owotorose’s agency as an illumination to the light of insurance.

He decried the poor state of insurance in the country, saying everybody requires insurance.In his remarks, the agency manager, Owotorose, while expressing excitement over the launch, appreciated the efforts of AIICO for giving him the opportunity to showcase most of the various products of the company.

“Henceforth, insurance would witness a turnaround with the unveiling of the agency reaching out to the grassroots.“Many Nigerians lack the knowledge of insurance with the inauguration of this agency, we intend to bring insurance closer to the people, he said.
