Having keyed into the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology’s programmes to promote the “Made in Nigeria Campaign” under the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (2017-2020), the acting Director-General, PRODA, Dr. Edwin Oriaku, during a technical session in Enugu State, said the institute was also using the opportunity to showcase its activities through the technology and innovation expo.

According to him, PRODA technologies have been used to tackle unemployment and reduce youth restiveness through industrialisation. He pointed out that Science, Technology and innovation [STI] environment has assumed a fresh relevance in the last three years under Ministry of Science Technology by redirecting the nation’s technological road map to meet international standard.

Oriaku maintained that the present thrust of National Science and Technology policy is hinged on innovative research and development, adding that the major key performance indicator for innovative research all over the world is in the number of patents generated by research & development institutions and local and international papers published on research.

According to him, most of PRODA machineries have been patented while others are in the process.“In addition to the patent obtained, several research papers have been published. These patents are ready for commercialisation”, he said.He added that PRODA is ready to collaborate with sister research institutions and the public in all areas of engineering, electrical and scientific endeavour, particularly in the area of agro processing machinery for national development.
