IATA rates local airline high in safety standards

The clearing house for 285 airlines worldwide, through the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) programme has consistently audited the safety standards of the carriers.
The Head of Account Management, IATA West and Central Africa, Dr. Samson Fatokun, at the presentation of IOSA certificate to Air Peace airlines, commended the leading carrier for upholding high standards of safety in its flight operations.
IOSA is an internationally recognised and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline.
The IOSA audit creates a standard that is comparable on a world-wide basis, enabling and maximising the joint use of audit reports. This has saved the industry over 6400 redundant audits and continues to lead to extensive cost-savings for IOSA participating airlines.
Fatokun especially congratulated the Air Peace team for achieving the rare feat. He declared that many airlines had started the safety audit but were unable to complete it.
He said: “It gives me joy to present this certificate today because I know it’s the fruit of painstaking effort of your team. Scaling through this third safety audit process is a testament to Air Peace’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards in its operations.
Fatokun added that safety is IATA’s number one priority, and for any airline to pass the safety audit, its safety compliance must be 100 per cent, and Air Peace has met this prerequisite.
“Many airlines are not able to achieve this because they don’t have the discipline and hard work, which have consistently earned Air Peace this safety recognition. The certificate gives the airline a global recognition as a 100 percent safety-compliant airline,” Fatokun said.
The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, said the IOSA certificate was something to be proud of, adding that Air Peace is becoming the emerging force in Africa’s aviation landscape.
Onyema expressed gratitude to the IATA team and commended the entire Air Peace team for a successful safety audit. He also assured that the airline would always align with global best practices and safety standards.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Air Peace, Toyin Olajide, said the that certification was another feather to the Air Peace’s cap, and it confirms the airline’s uncompromising adherence to safety standards in line with global best practices.
She said: “The exercise, this time around, was tougher than what obtained in previous years, but we scaled through every phase of the certification process due to our unwavering drive to keep raising the bar in our operations.”
She reassured the flying public of the airline’s resolve to continue to comply with best safety standards and promised more seamless connectivity and an expanded route network in 2020.
The COO applauded the IATA for its efforts at ensuring that stakeholders in aviation globally comply with stipulated safety standards, and pledged that the airline would continue to blaze the trail in Africa’s aviation landscape.
“Air Peace has attained an enviable position as West Africa’s leading airline and will continue to raise the bar in flight services, while ensuring a 100 per cent compliance with all safety codes as required by the industry regulatory bodies.”
