FINCA Microfinance Bank has emerged the winner of 2015 Microfinance Bank of the Year of the Eastern Nigeria Merit Awards.

Presenting the award during the second edition of awards in Owerri, Imo State, the organiser, Prince I.K Ben Okereke, said the award is for individuals and organisations that make positive impact in the society and that strive to encourage excellence and professionalism.

Okereke noted that the award was based on research and monitoring carried out on all microfinance banks overtime and from interactions with microfinance clients.

Findings, he said, showed that FINCA is a legitimate and socially responsible microfinance bank that is committed to its mission of genuinely serving those at the bottom of the pyramid to enable them grow and improve their livelihoods unlike the other financial institutions that focus on the very rich clients.

The Chief Executive Officer, Philip Takyi, expressed profound gratitude to the organisers of the award.

He reiterated that FINCA is a microfinance bank that has come to change the face of banking with its unconventional approach to banking.

FINCA is poised to be the community bank that will touch all lives.

He noted that Nigeria is a great nation, an economic leader with the largest continental Gross Domestic Product, and a large population of hardworking entrepreneurial people.

“Given the large population and the geographical size of the country, seven out of ten adult Nigerians remain unbanked, which is a gap that needs to be filled.

“To the Nigeria market, FINCA’s customer proposition is based on offering simple but innovative financial solutions – savings, term deposits, and loan products – to help our clients effectively manage their money, save for the future or grow their micro-businesses,” he said.

FINCA Microfinance Bank is a subsidiary of FINCA International, a global microfinance network with operations in 23 countries across four continents- Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and Middle East and South Asia.

It is currently serving over 1,700,000 clients worldwide with a global microfinance experience of over 30 years.
