Specifically, while they see Information and Communications Technology (ICT) impacting positively on the business climate, they also reiterated the need to develop and drive new set of frameworks and solutions anchored on technology and other digital tools.

Experts have called on the Federal Government to consider the importance of technology exposure in managing the country, as there was the need to run the educational system on technology to make it more competitive.

Specifically, while they see Information and Communications Technology (ICT) impacting positively on the business climate, they also reiterated the need to develop and drive new set of frameworks and solutions anchored on technology and other digital tools.

This was the submission of stakeholders at the second edition of the quarterly forum tagged: “Leapfrogging Social Impact through Technology”, organised by Bridge International Academies (Bridge) in Lagos.

The forum, which was in collaboration with the Lagos State ministries of Education, and Economic Planning & Budget, deliberated on the role of technology in accelerating social and educational development.

The Country Manager for International Finance Corporation (IFC), Eme Essien, opined that cross-sector partnership among governments, social innovators and technopreneurs is a needed ingredient for improving Nigeria’s social indices, and increasing its competitiveness.

She noted that technology has become so pervasive in today’s world, and can no longer be ignored hence the need for more collaboration, and cross fertilisation of ideas among the various strata, be it social, education, or business.

Corroborating, the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said: “governments’ appetite for investment in technology must continue to increase, as this has become the most viable platform for revving the growth of many social and economic indices.”

He cited the example of Lagos State, which recently launched her education-technology programme named, “‘CodeLagos’, targeted at equipping one million young people with coding skills and transforming the state into a major technology hub over the next decade.”
