The former Director General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA Dr Harold Demuren has stressed the need for public private partnership in order to bring about progress in the aviation sector.

In an exclusive chat with The Guardian during the 2016 Nigerian Business Aviation Conference in Lagos, Demuren said the imperativeness of public private partnership cannot be overemphasized. According to him, the partnership allows the public sector to be a player in the industry. So it is a win-win situation.

Commenting on national carrier he stated that that National carrier can work on one condition; good corporate governance: transparency, honesty, integrity there must be no political interference. It must be run professionally. It’s not national cake. Every decision for that national carrier must be professional decision, with good politics and economics.
He further noted that public private partnership is also indispensable in the aviation sector adding that political interference in regulation should be avoided

On infrastructure he noted that government of Nigeria has put a lot of money in infrastructure, but however said that the airport equipment should be upgraded. He however noted that government should invest more on the air side instead of the land side. He explained that investment on the air side include navigation which can make aircraft land at zero visibility, runways perimeter fence, the ones that people don’t see, but they promote safety.
