Tamilore, the kid baker, speaks about her cake business

My name is Adu Tamilore. I am eight years old and a kidentrepreneur. I own BeeBee Cakes. I bake cupcakes and birthday cakes for family and friends. I started this business when I was seven years old.

When I was five years old, I used to help my mom in the kitchen whenever she was baking and I always enjoyed every step: the mixing, (though a little hard, but fun), the baking stage (when I always couldn’t wait for the cake to be out of the oven), and the most interesting and creative stage was the decorating stage, where we used different beautiful colours, sprinkles and other yummy items.

I bake cakes for people using flour, sugar, butter, eggs, flavour, baking powder, vanilla and so many other ingredients, and my mom helps me out whenever I need to bake, she gets me all the ingredients and also assists me while baking.

I usually make the cake during weekends because I have to go to school during weekdays. I have made at least N35, 000, so far, from this business and my mom keeps the money for me.

I advertise to my friends in school, and my family friends. My mum also tells her friends about it and by so doing, some have patronised me.Baking has always been fun for me and I usually can’t wait to get orders because I am always very happy to bake.I hope to learn more about baking, as I grow and make more money so that I can help the less privileged and also create a source of employment in my big cake shop.

My advice to other children who want to be an entrepreneur like me is that they should learn to do something they have passion for, which makes everybody happy and they should also know that business is not only a thing for adults; children can also make money for daddies and mommies just like daddies and mommies make money to provide for our needs.
