NSE’s market capitalisation rises further by N200 billion

EQUITY transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange sustained rising profile yesterday, following price gains recorded by virtually all the bluechip companies, resulting to a further rise in market capitalization by N200 billion.

   Specifically, at the close of transactions yesterday, 29 stocks appreciated in price, led by Diamond bank with 9.86 per cent to close at N4.01 per share while UAC-Properties followed with 9.81 per cent to close at N10.97 per share.

RT Briscoe gained 8.96 per cent to close at N0.73 per share. Zenith Bank added 7.80 per cent to close at N18.11 per share.

   Other gainers during yesterday’s trading include Champion Breweries ,   EcobankTransNational Incorporated and UACN, adding  5.72,5.00 and 5.00 per share to close at N6.28, N16.80 and N38.85 per share.

Guaranty Trust Bank gained 4.97 per cent to close at N22.58 per share. United Bank for Africa added 4.86 per cent to close at N3.67 per share . 

Dangote flourmills also gained 4.76 per cent to close at N3.30 per share.

   However, 15 stocks recorded price depreciation, as Conoil emerged the day’s highest price loser, shedding 9.75 per cent to close at N32.68 per share. Union Bank of Nigeria lost 4.97 per cent to close at N9.03 per share. Stanbic IBTC shed 3.42 per cent toclose at N25.11 per share.

Presco lost 3.38 per cent to close at N29.99 per share. Livestock Feeds shed 3.07 per cent to close at N2.21 per share.

   Okomuoil, International Breweries , Dangote Sugar Refinery dropped 2.95,2.80 and 2.79 per cent to close at N26.64, N20.50 and N7.31 per share.

Cutix also lost 2.53 per cent to close at N1.54 per share.

   Consequently, the All-share index of the NSE rose by N200billion or 1.9 per cent, from N9,998trillion recorded on Tuesday N10,198trillion, while the All-share index increased by 599.61 points from 30,018.35 to 30,617.96.

   On the activity chart, the banking  sector maintained its dominance in volume terms with 188million shares worth N1.3billion followed by the  insurance subsector with 27 million shares worth N14 million.

   The conglomerates ranked third with 23millionshares worth N92 million.

   The banking subsector was strengthened by activities in the shares of  United Bank for Africa with 44million shares valued at BN161 million while Diamond Bank followed with N35 million units worth N140 million.

The insurance subsector was buoyed by activities in the shares of Universal insurance with 23 million shares worth N11million in three deakls followed by Wapic insurance with 3million units, valued at N1.3million.

On the whole, investors exchanged 466 million shares worth N4.7billion in 4,880 deals.
