The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has advocated a policy that would promote and spur entrepreneurial activities in the country.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing to announce the forth coming yearly conference of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers in Lagos yesterday, the Chairman of the conference, Akeem Oyewale, explained that the Nigerian Capital Market was in dire need of entrepreneurs to boost activities and reposition the market for global competitiveness.

He noted that no capital market could thrive without the participation of entrepreneurs, adding that they have the capacity to bring their companies for listing on the stock exchanges.

He added that entrepreneurship, not only contribute significantly to improved living standards, and employment generation but also help in poverty reduction.

He pointed out that entrepreneurship have not played the significant role expected in Nigeria’s economic development, adding that the development of entrepreneurship therefore represents an essential element in the growth strategy of most economies and holds particular significance in the case of Nigeria.

Oyewale explained that as part of the institute’s commitment to help tackle the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria, the CIS has concluded arrangement to hold its yearly conference, slated for Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30, in Lagos,

Speaking on the theme of the conference: ‘entreprenueuship and the Capital Market.. Fast tracking a new economy for Nigeria’, Oyewale explained that the conference, which is expected to attract over 700 participants would provide opportunity for these participants to derive the needed value that would stimulate their entrepreneurship drive.

He added those that have shallow knowledge of capital market activities would be informed on how the market would help them nuture their entrepreneurial skills.

“It has been proven that our Annual Conference is a platform for articulating issues that would help the government in its policy planning and implementation. Last year’s conference focused on the Entertainment Industry and many of the key players in that sector have been utilizing the market facilities to expand their businesses.

“Capital Market is not just about listing alone, there are other windows such as the use of debt instruments to raise fund. We are focusing on the Entrepreneurs this year as part of our imput towards strengthening the African Capital Markets. We want to promote entrepreneurs because they occupy a pivotal role in the development of a Capital market” Oyewale said.
