Local meter manufacturers target monthly production of 25,000 units

Indigenous meter producers under the aegis of Electricity Meters Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (EMMAN), have unveiled their commitment to producing about 25,000 meters monthly to further aid adequate metering regime in the power sector.

The group, which described this as a take-off capacity said arrangements are on-going to expand the capacity as production progresses.The Executive Secretary of EMMAN, Muideen Ibrahim, who disclosed this in a joint communiqué issued at the end of a strategic meeting between EMMAN members and ZIKLAGSIS Networks Limited (ZNL), expressed its commitment to the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s presidential initiative on metering scheme for Nigerians.

Ibrahim said local meter manufacturers have resolved to ensure that their various factories work in full capacity to deliver on the metering needs.

He said that the manufacturers are confident that the metering project would bring about economic revolution and development as it would create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed Nigerians as well as enhance transfer of technology to the country.

He also assured that the quality of meters manufactured by EMMAN member companies are of international standards that can compete favourably with any brand from any part of the world, and are also tropicalized for the Nigerian environment to withstand the extreme weather condition such as temperature and humidity.

Ibrahim further revealed that EMMAN and ZIKLAGSIS Networks Limited (ZNL) have requested from the Federal Government a two-month lead-time from the day the contract is awarded and commitment made.

While expressing their profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the good initiative in the sector, he pleaded with the Federal Government to encourage local manufacturers to continue to be in operations to help reduce unemployment rate by allocating adequate forex to aid their continuous operations.

The group also expressed appreciation to the management of ZIKLAGSIS Networks Limited (ZNL) for patronizing the local meter manufacturers thereby helping the country’s economy to grow.

He then restated that the presidential initiative on metering scheme for Nigerians is indeed a good step in the right direction that would bring a lot of improvement in curbing the non-technical losses in the system and contribute immensely to the growth of the country’s GDP in the long run.
