APM Terminals has renovated Oncology Section of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

A statement issued by the company explained that the initiative form part of its contributions to the treatment of Cancer Patients in Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated Clinic , the Deputy Managing Director of APM Terminals Apapa, Olufemi Ransome-Kuti said cancer is a leading cause of death in the world especially in developing countries like Nigeria.

According to him, the development “aroused a passion within the company to support the care and treatment of cancer patients”.

Explaining further, Ransome-Kuti said: “The renovation of the oncology clinic is a corporate social responsibility initiative of our company in line with one of our core values, constant care, which focuses on sustainable business environment. This includes our employees, customers and their families.”

The Head of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Department of LUTH, Professor Remi Ajekigbe, onbehalf of the department, commended APM Terminals for the initiative.

He said:“Cancer is a gloomy disease, and taking care of cancer patients in a gloomy environment will be double jeopardy.”

A recovered cancer patient and Managing Director of Bricon Global Consult, Abigail Simon-Hart who worked with APM Terminals on renovating the oncology clinic “praised APM Terminals for taking the lead and sponsoring the renovation work”. Sharing her experience, according to the statement signed by General Manager, Communication and Sustainability, Austine Fischer, Abigail stressed the importance of early detection of cancer and the need to have an environment conducive for treatment, which she said, would aid the speedy recovery of patients.
