APC dissolves national working committee

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday dissolved its national working committee, presidential aide Tolu Ogunlesi disclosed.

“Major shake-up in Nigeria’s ruling party APC, as National Executive Council (NEC) meets at the State House,” Ogunlesi tweeted. “National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved.”

Ogunlesi also disclosed that a “caretaker committee” will be put in place.

The APC took the decision to dissolve its national working committee was based on the recommendations of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari also called for the immediate suspension of all pending litigations involving the party and its members, as well as the ratification of the party’s governorship primary election recently conducted in Edo State.

He condemned the recent leadership crisis within the APC and urged members to comply with the party’s principles.

Consequently, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed as the chairman of the new caretaker committee of the APC.

Buni was sworn in at the meeting by Nigeria’s justice minister Abubakar Malami.

Present at the meeting were vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Senate president Ahmad Lawan, the speaker of the house of representatives Femi Gbajabiamila and 15 APC governors from Nasarawa, Niger, Jigawa, Yobe, Plateau, Kogi, Imo, Gombe, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Ekiti, Kano and Kebbi State.

Other principal members of the APC – the party’s acting national secretary, Waziri Bulama, and its spokesperson, Lanre Issa-Onilu were not seen to have attended the meeting.
