Teecoks Writing Competition for secondary school students, organised by Towunmi Coker Literary Initiative, completed its 2015 annual writing competition last November. It is founded by Dr. Towunmi Coker, who has a passion for writing and the need to inculcate it in students. According to her, the judges have been working hard to arrive at the three top winners for the Young Lagos Writers 2015. The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos. Time is 10am prompt.

Guests that will grace the event include Mr. Jimi Agbaje who will chair, special guest of honour, Dr. Aderonhmu, royal father, His Majesty Oyedeji Kamila Isiba and guest speaker, Abigail Anaba.

Teecoks Writing competition for secondary school students is designed to promote reading and writing culture among students. It is also aimed at inspiring, developing, promoting and supporting students in Nigerian secondary schools who have a flair for writing with a view to impacting positively on Nigeria’s educational environment.

Teecoks Writing competition among secondary school students began in Lagos State in 2013. A medical doctor, Coker believes improving the writing skills of Nigeria’s young ones can help exposure them to new technology that would further improve their skills of writing and introduce them to the world as young writers.

She was winner of Association of Nigerian Authors/National Examination Council (ANA/NECO) in 2007 as a secondary school student, which inspired to set up the initiative. Coker, therefore, wants other students who love to write to continue writing and develop their talent for writing.

Supporters of Teecoks Writing Initiative include Mimee Noodles (produced by May & Baker), Lagos State Internal revenue (LIRS), Stay in School Nigeria and Nigeria Breweries Plc. This year’s edition is particularly special, as every participant will get a special pack from Mimee Noodles.
