The second edition of Queen Moremi Pageant would be held in October. The first edition, which was held last year, had Miss Blessing Animasahun as winner. Now however, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, feels the need to immotalise his legendary grandmother in more ways than have already been done. The Ooni recently announced plans to organise the second edition of Queen Moremi Pageant, which will take place in October.

At a media briefing in Lagos last week, the Ooni, represented by the Heritage Ambassador, Princess Ronke Ademuliyi, said, “Queen Moremi remains an indelible new dawn of great awakening for the development of the Yoruba culture. This mission is very close to my heart and touches my global re-enactment of the Yoruba culture.”

On her part, Ademuliyi said, “Apart from upholding the legacy of the respected queen of O’odua, the pageant will also help stimulate the awareness of the tourism potentials of Ile-Ife, as well as re-awaken the legacy and create conscious awareness of the impact of this traditional icon which is almost going into extinct if not salvaged.”

She said the pageant would, through the various activities, epitomise the intellect, beauty and the spirit of bravery that Queen Moremi exhibited in her lifetime for the Ile-Ife people.

The competition is opened to ladies between the ages 18 to 25, who must be of Yoruba heritage or of half parentage and must be able to communicate in Yoruba and English fluently as she would subsequently be accompanying the Ooni on all his engagements.

The winner will also receive a brand new car with N1.5 million cash prize, as well as a wardrobe allowance every month. Other contestants will not be left out, as everyone would take home something. Already the Ooni has paid for the forms for the first 100 contestants, who wish to compete.
