With the aim to support, promote and develop the visual arts in such areas as photography, cinematography and videography in Nigeria, a Lagos-based organisation, Temple Management Company has announced the launch of Fashola Photographic Foundation. Scheduled to hold on August 5, 2017, at the Banquet Hall, City Hall in Lagos, the event is in honour of Alhaji Ademola Fashola.

The organisers said the Foundation is a befitting tribute to late Alhaji Fashola by his children, to celebrate their father and his great love for Photography.Ahead of the August launch, there will be a series of contests and workshops holding from July 22 – 26, 2017 for emerging and professional photographers. The workshops are intended to raise awareness and develop critical thinking in contemporary photographic art in Nigeria. The week-long workshops, which include street photography, documentary-making and portraitures, will further provide a supportive and inspirational community where photographers of all levels can build confidence in their creative and technical skills.

The Fashola Photo workshop is designed as an annual tuition-free professional resource outlets aimed at nurturing emerging talent from Nigeria. Each year, 15 participants will be selected from across the region to converge on Lagos for an intensive week-long workshop conducted by international professional photographers, who volunteer their time and expertise to be a part of the initiative.

The inaugural photo contest will be held yearly and, based on selected themes, will provide a platform for participants to gain recognition for their artistic and technical achievements. The themes for this year, Dialogue with Nature and Nostalgia Portraits, discuss nature and periods in the past that cannot be forgotten.
