Arts students of the Grange School, Ikeja, Lagos are learning print making at the feet of the renown artist, Prof. Bruce Onobrakpeya.
The event is the 2016 edition of the yearly programme designed to boost the artistic ability of the talented arts students of the school as well as their entrepreneurship skills.

At the opening of the training by Onobrakpeya, which is a segment of the seven-week programme, the Chief Executive Officer and Principal, Grange School, Graham Stothard described Nigeria as a country rich in every aspect of arts. “Nigeria is recognized in terms of production of experts in all the noble professions, including arts. We are happy to have Prof. Onobrakpeya with us to bequeath to our students artistic skills that will make them excel in the profession.”

For several hours, Onobrakpeya and members of his team took the students through the rudiments of printmaking to sharpen their knowledge of the subject matter before moving into the practical segment when the students are expected to exhibit their artistic prowess in producing different works.

Onobrakpeya, who dwelt extensively on the various forms of printmaking and the materials used, also exposed the young artists to the various hazards encountered by the professionals. Essentially, he urged the students to always cover their mouth, use gloves, wash their hands, operate in a ventilated room or office and to avoid inhaling air polluted with chemicals. He also advised the student artists not to work when they are tired so as not to make mistakes that can get them injured.

It was gathered that the yearly event tagged “Artist in Residence” lasts for about seven weeks after which the products of the young artists are exhibited for people to buy and the students are given the money made from the artworks.
