Wives On Strike, the new comedy film by Omoni Oboli and starring Julius Agwu, Uche Jombo, Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma McDermott, Kehinde Bankole, Kalu Ikeagwu and Kenneth Okonkwo will premiere on April 3 in Lagos. However, it is set for the cinemas from April 8.

The movie revolves round a group of market women who decided to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father. The women, who hilariously interpret their roles, set a series of events in motion to give the movie many moments of laughter.

Wives on Strike is Oboli’s third movie as a director. She made her debut as a director with Being Mrs. Elliot and followed it up with The First Lady, which is reputed to have done well in cinemas when it opened to the public.

While speaking on his expectation, distributors of the movie and Chief Operating Officer of FilmOne, Mr. Moses Babatope, hinted that with Wives on Strike, Oboli’s might be on the way to recording a box office hat trick with three of her self-produced movies. In his words, ‘In Nigeria, only one producer has the honour of three box office hits with his three movies. From the look of things, Oboli’s next movie, Wives on Strike which will be in cinema from April 8 will make her join that exclusive list.

“Omoni’s last movie, The First Lady saved the day for the whole industry last year. Before The First Lady came to cinema, almost all Nollywood movies released last year performed abysmally except one. The First Lady re-established trust in Nigerian movies at the cinemas and further helped subsequent movies released to do well. So if you love comedy with a little slant on issues, you will love Wives on Strike”.
