Kolo advocates Digital Literacy in Nigerian universities

The Vice Chancellor of Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun State, Prof. Reuben Jiya Kolo, has called on Nigerian universities to put ‘Digital Literacy’ into their systems.

The call was made in a book presentation, Repositioning Nigerian Universities for the Digital Revolution of the 21st Century.

According to Kolo, the book is packaged to address and enhance the capacity and proficiencies of Nigerian Ivory Towers, as the world is going to digital revolution and artificial intelligence.

Conversely, the publication was not aimed at doldrums or rots in the educational system but as a harbinger of digital literacy and Information Communication Technology (ICT) compliance in Nigerian education systems, services and delivery.

The book was published to honour former Vice Chancellor of Crawford University, Prof. Isaac Rotimi Ajayi (2015 – 2020) for his sterling qualities as University administrator of repute, a goal getter and distinguished scholar.

The 21-chapter book is a compendium of contemporary and actuality packaged to address different aspects of digital technology and knowledge economy and the roles of Nigerian universities in the digital revolution. It is a book well researched, written in lucid, understandable and captivating style by consortium of scholars who were inspired by the emerging technological advancement thereby lending their intellectualism in a prolific manner to articulate the prevailing themes encompassing economy, electronic governance, science, technology, citizenship, political participation, virtual mobilisation, sociology, globalisation, electoral corruption, e-voting, research grants, monetary and financial performance in the digital era.

As the book was launched in order to spur Nigerian universities into digital revolution engineered by knowledge based economy, the occasion was also used to emphasise the need for Crawford University students and all participants in attendance to keep pace with technological innovations in their different areas of calling as promising professionals, technocrats and administrators.

The editor, Prof. Gabriel Lanre Adeola, a Professor of Political Science at Crawford University, former Head, Political Science and International Relations and currently the Dean of Post Graduate School, was, commended for his astute strides and doggedness in bringing the publication and launching of the book into fruition.

The chief launchers present at the book event were the former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Tunde Lemo; Dr. Tunde Olugbodi, Olota of Ota, Prof. Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, Ekun II Arole Iganmode; while Dr. Ayinde Ibikunle, the Otunba of Ilaro chaired the occasion.
