Rapper Ruggedman, is back and this time speaking for oppressed police victims in latest hit, Is Police Your Friend. The 253 seconds video showcases the rapper lending his bars to the protest against police violence and gross abuse to human rights as captured by the recent social media campaign under the hash-tag #EndSars.

The #EndSARS campaign, which went viral late last year, attracted both local and international uproar with a call for the scrapping of the anti-robbery squad unit of the Nigerian Police Force due to their high-handedness, intimidation, unwarranted arrests and allegations of murder.

The music video opens with Zone 2 Police Command Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, stating the manner by which arrests can be carried out. This is quickly followed with images of Ruggedman walking on the streets with his phone and getting stopped by members of the dreaded SARS group building up to his verses.

The music, which samples a popular gyration classic tune, matches up with the scenes quite well. Attention was paid to the blend of costumes as the rapper wore a white top amidst police officers dressed in all black.

While the first verse is dedicated to police brutality, the ‘Opomulero of Naija Hiphop’ does well by capturing the state of the society on the alternate verse.

The music video was directed by Dr. Nell for Rugged Records, overall is good, as it is kept simple and meaningful with clips from real videos posted by victims of harassment, It also features cameo from comedian Frank Donga, Doris Simeon and Segun Awosanya (Segalink), a lead campaigner of the #EndSARS agitation.
