Igbo arts and culture festival holds in U.S.

President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, will be among dignitaries expected to grace Ndigbo Art, Language and Culture Festival, by organised by the Council of Igbo States in America (CISA).

Beginning from July 27 through 29, at the Igbo Village, located at Frontier Cultural Museum in Staunton, Virginia, U.S., the yearly three-day event will draw participants from across the American continent, Nigeria, South Africa, Mali, Ghana, Germany, United Kingdom, Columbia, Mozambique, Liberia, and Japan among others.

Aside its numerous programmes, including live music/entertainment, Igbo learning workshops, traditional naming ceremony process, children’s learning programme/story-telling, Igbo children’s fashion and hair style demonstration, Igbo traditional courtship and marriage processes, career opportunities in Igbo states of Nigeria and Diaspora among others, the event will serve as avenue to raise funds for CISA initiatives.

Festival Planning Committee chairman, Mr. Chidi Asidianya, in a release, said, “Anyone visiting Ama Ndigbo (Igbo Village) will be impressed by the things around it, especially the Igbo in America are rewriting the narratives of their forebears that were brought into the continent as slaves in the 16th and 17th centuries.

“The event acknowledges the contributions, knowledge and skills of the Igbo people in the 1600s that were passed on to the subsequent generations of Americans. Nollywood films, books and literary works of Igbo authors in Igbo and other languages that are rewriting some of the past narratives will be showcased. As in the past years, we shall welcome royalties for Nigeria and Africa, state governors, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Nollywood actors and other notable personalities.”
