Gordini Darah set to mentor aspiring writers

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, is fast becoming a beehive of scholarly and literary activities. This citadel of higher learning is not just home to acclaimed creative writers and scholar-critics, it is now a breeding ground for emerging writers and literary and art critics.

This would be borne out on Wednesday, April 19, 2016, when members of the Creative Writers’ Workshop (CWW) will seat at the feet of one of Africa’s most revolutionary folklorist and formidable literary and art critic, Prof. G.G. Darah, and soak in the eloquence of a fertile mind on the creative process and its ever-changing environment. The event will start at 12noon at Hall A at the permanent site, Delta State University, Abraka.

On hand to host and moderate the event will be Head of the university’s Department of English and Literary Studies and University’s Public Orator, Dr. Sunny Awhefeada. Darah, who is the founding president of Nigerian Oral Literatures Association (NOLA), is billed to decolonised the minds of the aspiring writers and spur them on the process of creating enduring pieces of prose, drama and poetry. Also on the bill is his mentorship of these young writers on how to write to right the manifold wrongs in Nigeria’s convoluted political and social experience through engaging narratives, dialogues and verses.

The event is free for all lovers of literary and artistic craft in and around Delta State and beyond.
