AFTER what has been roundly described as a successful theatrical distribution in 2014, leading movie distribution and production outfit, FilmOne is set to open the 2015 theatrical release season with three major movies—Heavens Hell, Gone Too Far and The Department.

However, it is Gone Too Far, a British/Nigerian comedy produced by Poisson Rouge Pictures and con-funded by the British Film Institute that will set the ball rolling on January 15. Directed by fast-rising female British/Nigerian director Destiny Ekaragha, the movie features O.C Ukeje, Adelayo Adedayo, Malachi Kirby, Bhasker Patel, Pooja Shah and Tosin Cole.

The story is rbout Ikudayisi (O.C Ukeje) who travels to meet his estranged brother, Yemi, for the first time in Peckham. Yemi (raised in the UK) questions both his judgment and his African heritage. O.C. Ukeje plays the comical role of a typical bush African. A day on the estate filled with danger, excitement, and romance, teaches them the values of family and self-respect.

Following Gone Too Far will be Heavens Hell, a psychological thriller, produced and directed by Katung Aduwak (Big Brother Nigeria Winner). It will hit cinemas on January 23. It features notable actors like Nse-Ikpe Etim, Bimbo Akintola, Damilola Adegbite, Chet Anekwe, Fabian Adeoye Olojede, O.C.Ukeje, Kalu Ikeagwu, and Gideon Okeke.

The movie unveils the lives of two housewives who are best friends (played by Nse and Bimbo) and that of their husbands (played by Fabian & Chet). Their lives are held together by a rock-solid friendship but soon laced with deceit, betrayal and a lurking darkness.

The third movie on the bill is The Department. Think corporate espionage and think The Department, which is a break away from the usual norm of storytelling. A secret organization tagged ‘The Department’ run by young professionals; blackmail top Executives into selling their companies to the ‘man’ behind the Department. Two lovers opt out of deal and the pressure, intrigues; blackmail from the group, soon tests their love for each other. The part action, part romance movie parades notable actors like Majid Michel, Osas Ighodaro, JideKosoko, Desmond Elliot, Funky Mallam, and Seun Akindele. It is billed for theatrical release on January 30.

Speaking on the performance of FilmOne in 2014, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the distribution house, Mr. Kene Mkparu stated that the company had within a short time become the brand that is synonymous with quality theatrical releases. He also said, “We can never compromise with quality content, which encompasses sound technical values. We look forward to 2015 with enthusiasm, as we have an array of great movies that Nigerians and non-Nigerians will find highly entertaining and worth their time and money”.

It will be recalled that in 2014, FilmOne Distribution brought to the nation’s viewing delight, three blockbuster movies—the highly acclaimed Half of A Yellow Sun, October 1 and When Love Happens. FilmOne is also behind the promotion of one of the most hilarious, addictive comedy of the year Head Gone, which is still making its cinematic rounds.
