Profilic Nigerian poet and scholar, Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo will on the 8th day of May, 2019 be hosted to a poetry reading and interactive session by the Department of English and Literary Studies, Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka

Ifowodo, a multiple award winner of the Association of Nigerian Authors prize for poetry, was born on May 14, 1966, in Oleh, Isoko North Council of Delta State.

A compelling scholar of the humanities, Ifowodo first studied for a Law degree at the University of Benin, where he distinguished himself as an activist and starry-eyed Marxist, when he led the famous Anti-SAP students riots in Benin during the repressive military presidency of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Thereafter, he proceeded the renowned Cornell University, New York for a master of Fine Art in poetry, and later a PhD in Literature.

In a statement by Dr. (Mrs.) Enajite Eseoghene Ojaruega on behalf of the department, the poetry reading and interactive session will see Dr. Ifowodo reading selected poems from his poetry collections, and a conversation with him that will traverses topical issues that will alternate between the state of education, politics, and leadership in the country and, the relevance of writers and writing.

The session, which will have the university’s Dean of Arts, Professor Sunny Awhefeada, as the chief host, will commence at 10:00am and it will hold in the ultra-modern 1,000 seater auditorium in the permanent site of the university.
