Royal Arts Academy Rewards Excellence

Royal Arts Academy held its prize-giving day last weekend. Students who performed well were rewarded with cash prizes. Titled Spotlight, students were trained and equipped in the areas of acting, screenwriting, editing and directing necessary for success in the industry.

Royal Arts Academy held its prize-giving day last weekend. Students who performed well were rewarded with cash prizes. Titled Spotlight, students were trained and equipped in the areas of acting, screenwriting, editing and directing necessary for success in the industry.

The students were presented with a three-pronged Youth Empowerment Initiative that comprised of the Spotlight Short Films given to students of the academy who had shot short films of not more than 10 minutes. Ten of the best films judged by a jury comprising of producers, actors, directors and screenwriters. The final 10 films were chosen from the lot and uploaded on Royal Arts Academy’s YouTube page for public viewing and voting. The winning short film was announced at the premiere of Spotlight, a feature movie produced by Royal Arts Academy for its students and for which the short film contest is named.

This event climaxed last weekend at the Civic Centre, Lagos. The Best Student Editor prize went to Chidi Kalu Samuel, Best Male Actor, Ikechukwu Akalu, Most Promising Actress, Omotola Shonoye and Best Screenwriter went to Chika Sally.

In the short film category, Our Girls took the third position, with a cash prize of N150,000, Hot Soup placed second with a cash prize of N250,000 while Two Chics and a Dude took the grand prize of N500,000 cash.
