A CALL for audition for a new movie usually fills up the venue with all kinds of people both trained and untrained. While a few attend the audition exercise well-prepared, the majority of these talents attend not sure of what is required of them. To be able to know what is required of them so they can make headways in their chosen career, they need to take lessons in different areas of movie production. It is this knowledge gap that the newly established Broadway Movie Academy intends to bridge.

Lead Consultant of Broadway Movie Academy (BMA) and Chief Executive Officer of Bigsam Media, Mr. Sam Olatunji, stated while announcing the establishment of the academy that intention of its founders is to ‘prepared’ graduates that will be able to do ‘things’ on their own in the movie industry.

According to him, “Oftentimes, the dilemma of those who want to go into movie industry is the knowledge gap that needs to be bridged. They want to start acting but don’t know how to start, where to go for opportunities, how to improve skills and how to market themselves, how not to fall into hands of fraudulent individuals. The same goes for directing, movie production, scripting writing and other marketable skills in the industry. So this academy will help prepare them for a rewarding career in the industry”.

Classes for the academy will commence in February 2016 and Olatunji hinted that already the founders have confirmed some notable Nollywood practitioners as facilitators.

Olatunji stated further, “The first set of facilitators announced are Mildred Okwo (producer and director of The Meeting and Surulere), Omoni Oboli (actress, producer and director of Being Mrs. Elliot and The First Lady), Blessing Egbe (actress, producer, director of Lekki Wives, Two Bride and a Baby), Chineze Anyaele (producer and director of Ije), Uche Jombo (actress and producer of over 17 movies) and Moses Babatope (director at FilmHouse Cinemas and Head of Filmone Distribution). We shall announce more facilitators with proven track records in the next few days”.

Also, Olatunji noted that the faculty at BMA have designed a 35-class session where industry professionals would be on ground to teach prospective industry players and existing industry players, “especially those who want to deepen their knowledge in acting, scriptwriting, directing, production, cinematography and the business aspect of filmmaking. We will also be taking students through the process of becoming entertainment brands, how to promote themselves and their works and how to be a viable entertainment brand and other industry-related subjects.

All students will also participate in a big budget movie that will be shot at the end of the classes. The movie which will be shown in cinemas across Nigeria with support from established brands in the industry will also afford the students the opportunity to have first hand experiences and kick start their journey to stardom”.
