Screen diva, Bimbo Akintola has once again been recognised for her immense contribution to the growth and development of the Nigerian movie industry. The actress of many credits was given a merit accolade at the Cross River Movie Awards, which held at the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar last Sunday, December 11.

Akintola has been gaining so much after her unparalleled role in the movie 93 Days. “I am delighted to have this accolade and I look forward to contributing more to the success and improvement of Nollywood,” she said after accepting the award. 

The annual award, which began in 2013, and now in its fourth edition, is convened to facilitate and recognize contributions made by movie-makers and thespians across the federation.

It was an initiative of the former chairman of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Cross River State chapter, Eric Anderson, who is currently the Special Assistant to Cross River Government on Tourism Development.

Also honoured at the awards is Lagos lawmaker, Desmond Eliot, who went home with the ‘Best Director’ for the movie Knocking on Heaven’s Door. Other practitioners who were recognized for the contributions in the industry include, Emem Isong and Ini Edo as ‘Best Producer’; Majid Michel as ‘Best English Act’ (Male), while Adesua Etomi won the ‘Best Female Act’ (English).
