Organizers of the yearly NollywoodWeek Film Festival (NWFF) in Paris have announced dates and released a line-up of films and activities for this year’s festival, which will be held virtually. This edition holds from May 6 to 9, 2021 and it will screen feature narratives, shorts, and animations as well as panel discussions, networking sessions, masterclasses, and special screenings.

The opening night film for this virtual edition is titled, Lockdown, as directed by Moses Iwang. There is a spotlight on a full-length animated feature from Nigeria titled, Ladybuckit and the Motley Mopster. Adebisi Adetayo signed the animation as producer. It will be the first time that a full-length animation film from Nigeria will be screened at the festival. The other films set for screening include Ekene Mekwunya’s One Lagos Night, Imoh Umoren’s The Herbert Mcaulaey Affair, Damilola Orimogunje’s For Maria Ebun Pataki and Kayode Kasum’s Ponzi. Also on the line-up is Judith Audu’s The Session and Teniola Olatoni Ojigbede’s The New Normal.

The NWFF, which started nine years ago as a Paris domiciled Nigerian Film Festival, suffered a cancellation last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The NWFF has from inception been committed to diversity in film. In previous years, the festival showcased the work of eminent Nigerian actors and directors such as Kunle Afolayan, Niyi Akinmolayan, Ramsey Nouah, Omoni Oboli, Tope Oshin, Kemi Adetiba, Rita Dominic, Moses Inwang, and many more to an audience of over 30,000 movie-goers over the years. The festival, which was launched in 2013, runs on a yearly basis. It was created in order to provide a platform for quality Nigerian cinema in the French market. Over the years, the festival has enjoyed the support of major French companies such as Total and Air France and Angénieux as well as major Nigerian companies such as UBA and the Africa Movie Channel.
