AS part of efforts to keep Nigerians at home and in the diaspora abreast of currents events in the country, Nigerian Tourism Europe, a tourism organization based in Sweden and England, is collaborating with Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) and Motoring World International to launch Nigeria Travellers Guide and Tourism book.

The book is an international publication being put together to guide, educate and inform travellers and holidaymakers worldwide about tourism facilities, centres and destinations in Nigeria. The book comprises of current affairs, information about mineral and natural resources and their locations in different states, recreational centres, trending businesses in the country, tourist sites in the 36 states, among others.

First in the series, the over 300 pages book, according to the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Tourism Europe, Prince Okes Masisma, noted that the aim is to kick-start the development and growth of Nigeria’s tourism industry and showcase the country as a destination for holidaymakers all over the world.

According to him, “This kind of book is supposed to be seen in all the airports in the world so that people coming to Nigeria get to know the country and have a little knowledge about their destination. Other African countries have theirs; Nigeria should not be left out. Most Nigerians in the diaspora who were born there knows nothing about Nigeria. This calls for concern.

“Given the continuing crash in oil price in the world market, now is the time for Nigeria to diversify and increase her sources of foreign exchange earnings. Unknown to holidaymakers around the world, Nigeria is richly blessed with tourism potential and indeed tourist facilities and centres”.

He further maintained that Nigeria, being the largest economy in Africa, has been due for a publication like this. However, he commended the efforts of NTDC under the leadership of Sally Mbanefo for partnering Nigerian Tourism Europe to ensure that Nigerians abroad and at home embraced the book rich in information.

As he put it, “No doubt, this book will serve as an eye-opener for some foreigners, tourists and businessmen about Nigeria and what goes on in the country, and this will boost the nation’s tourism sector with a knock-on effect on employment generation in the tourism industry and Nigeria as a whole”.
