Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has commended members of Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN) for their contribution to the growth of the Nigerian economy. Ayade, who spoke at the 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of OAAN, held in Calabar, said the body has maintained an advertising sector, which is boosting businesses across the country and especially Cross River State.

Represented by his deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu, the governor noted, “I am confident to say that OAAN is a major driving force of the Nigerian economy.”

Ayade said OAAN enjoys a very good relationship with his state through the collaborative effort with CRISSAA, the state’s outdoor advertising regulatory agency.

OAAN President, Mr. Babatunde Adedoyin, noted that in the last year, the association did well in view of the challenging economic environment in the country. Adedoyin said, “OAAN is devising ways for members not just to survive but thrive as a business. One of which is to work closely with media independent agencies and advertisers to seek beneficial ways to all partners”.

Adedoyin also said the association was doing its best to ensure that only members who were up-to-date in their annual dues are certified to practice, warning all those who are yet to pay their dues to do so. Adedoyin said new certificate would be printed to render the previous one invalid.

He said the association was in the process of amending the OAAN constitution to align it with current global trend in outdoor advertising. Adedoyin expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the 10 Poster Award, which recently held in Lagos.

Meanwhile, the members rose from the AGM, with the adoption of a new constitution in line with industry global best practices. The body also re-certified all its financial members, and urged them to upgrade their membership in the shortest possible time.

With the adoption of the new constitution, OAAN like any other professional body, now has a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will run the day-to-day affairs of the association, as practised globally, while member who were elected during the AGM are to serve as governing/advisory body without executive powers.
