Worried just like most Nigerians as the country drifts towards the precipice, poet and professor at the Department of English and Literature, the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Anthony Esijolomi Afejuku, will tomorrow, June 10, deliver his inaugural lecture at the institution’s Akin Deko Auditorium, Ugbowo Campus, with perhaps a topic that is as poetic as the desperate times.

The professor of English, Literature and Creative Writing has chosen for his topic The Autobiography of Nigeria for his inaugural lecture, a topic many agree resonates with the current season of anomy buffeting the country.

It will be chaired by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Imuetinyan Salami and other principal staff of the university.

Besides teaching and writing critical academic works, Afejuku has published three collections of poetry that include An Orchard of Wishes, A Garden of Moods and A Spring of Sweets, with other works awaiting publication.

Afejuku’s The Autobiography of Nigeria will be the university’s 245th inaugural lecture to be held since inception.
