Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has stated that youths are capable of bringing about the desired change in the country.

He charged the youths to rise to the current challenges in Nigeria by equipping themselves with innovations and ideas to move the country forward.

Obasa said this while receiving the ‘Exemplary Leadership’ award conferred on him by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) in his office, Alausa Ikeja.

“I can say boldly, with what I am seeing that our youths are ready to take over. We all want good leaders for Nigeria. We don’t want a country where only the rich will have their way and others do not.

“We want people with ideas, you must be innovative, come up with administrative ideas, look inwards and bring out what others can embrace and with government’s support, we can eradicate unemployment and poverty,” he said.

Obasa, however, urged the students to desist from acts capable of encouraging factionalisation in the union, saying that it was the only way to build strong institutions.

While appreciating the association for the award, Obasa maintained that it would be appropriate if the students continue to demonstrate sound leadership attributes at all times.

The leader of the delegation, Luqman Salaudeen, stated that NAPS had decided to honour the Speaker because of his leadership style in the state.

Salaudeen, who is the first Nigerian student to head the West African Polytechnic Union (WAPU), explained that Obasa had been piloting the affairs of the Lagos Assembly smoothly.

Also speaking, facilitator of the award, Abgabiaka Ahmed, said Obasa had been part of the success story of the state House of Assembly.
