The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Youth Council (EYC) has awarded the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, FunmiAyinke Nigeria Limited, Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, as ‘Distinguished African Icon of Societal Development’.

It was gathered that she was singled out for the award due to her efforts as a woman of high repute and hardworking goal-oriented individual, who placed great value on her integrity.

The President of the Council, Emmanuel William, described the award as a celebration of achievement and dedication to duty.

He said: “We salute the actualisation of your dream of propagating the message of peace, national integration, human capital development and leadership acumen, both physically and spiritually, make the world a better place.

“You are a woman that stands up first among her equals, a woman that has and still contributes her quota to nation-building, humanity and the promotion of youth development.

“The WAYC is for regaining our orbit for development. The work of an organisation should sufficiently convince public institutions, private enterprises and civil society of our desirability to utilise models by our organisation for practical utility, which already has a culture of scientific and planned development.”

Waheed-Adekojo, who expressed her delight for the award, promised to do all within her power to motivate youths across the continent.
