Senior staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), under the auspices of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), have pledged to support power growth.

Senior staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), under the auspices of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), have pledged to support power growth.

With the election of new officials, group’s congress and seminar held in Akure? recently, the union’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gabriel Amiji, reiterated the union’s commitment to the development of the nation’s power sector.

Among the 19 elected officials are the branch President, Dairo Abidemi; the Branch Secretary, Yerima Bukhar Hassan; and the PRO, Amiji Gabriel.

Nine Regional Branch Presidents (RBP) were elected for the nine regions of TCN, which consist Abuja, Shiroro, Kaduna, Bauchi, Osogbo, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Benin, and Lagos region.Other positions filled during the elections are the Branch Treasurer, Women Leader, Assistant Secretary, three Trustees, and two Auditors.

Commenting on the process, the branch President, Dairo Abidemi, said the election was done in accordance with the provisions of the Association’s Constitution Rule 6, which states that: “Each Branch shall constitute one constituency for the purpose of electing their delegates; Branch may invite Observers to attend meeting in which delegates will be elected.”

He said the Rule 6x also empowers the union to forward the names of the elected delegates to the General Secretary of the national body of SSAEAC.

“The TCN Branch acted in accordance with the provisions of the Association Constitution with an attendance of 90 percent of the Branch and Chapter Executives from all TCN Regions. The election was transparent, orderly and credible. The process was recorded on video for posterity,” he said.

Abidemi explained that the election had delayed due to a court case with the national body over the non-payment of about N25 million check off dues for the TCN Branch, and the ineligibility of the President General of SSAEAC, Chris Okonkwo, who is a General Manager and a Management staff contrary to the Trade Union Law of the Federation.

“Part of the Branch resolution is that the Ministry of Labour and Employment should compel the Management of TCN to stop her payment of 100 percent check off dues to the SSAEAC national body since it has refused to remit the branch rebate,” Amiji said.
