The Proprietress of Halifield School, Mrs. Halima Efe Oke has underscored the importance of developing talents in students as they go through their school curriculum.

This would help them to develop their innate talents that would prepare them adequately for the future. She said this at the school’s bi-annual extra curricula event at the University of Lagos where the pupils danced and acted the play – Cinderella and Rockefeller while the students staged the play: “Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again,” written by the late Prof. Ola Rotimi.

“We believe so much in discovering talents in our children, help them to develop them with a view to making them use those talents in future. We want parents to know that an average student can have more than one talent, which must be discovered early and developed.

“This kind of event helps those that may become future artistes to discover their talent and all we need to do is to help them develop same. Parents should know this and understand that children are not in school just for academics,” she said.

Oke added that students were fully prepared to face the future in the face of unemployment by also focusing on entrepreneurship at the early stage of their life so that they would not need to focus only on studies that would give them white cola jobs.“We train them in the area of producing whatever they can from local sources such as groundnut, maize, cassava,” she added.

She revealed that when the school was set up in 1996, it had the vision to train children to stand out and be involved in skills development, irrespective of their age, adding that this has consistently been their focus.Head of Programmes, Mrs. Olaogun Busola said the event prepares the students to face the crowd, speak to the audience with confidence and eliminate timidity.
