Risk Control, Yabatech partner on security management certification programme

Seeking to up-skill security personnel in Nigeria, Risk Control Services, a leading Nigerian security solutions company is partnering Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), to design and implement a Security Management Certification Programme.

According to the duo, the programme targets individuals, who desire to be modern security managers and those in active security employment or planning to venture into the security industry from managerial levels.

Speaking at an event organised recently by the institutions to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Director, Yabatech Consult Limited, Uduak Inyang-Udoh, said the collaboration would bridge the knowledge gap in attaining global security standards.

According to him, the objective of the certification programme was to improve the quality of training undergone by security personnel in the country, and to equip the industry with modern skills to fight crimes. He said there has been a rising challenge of insecurity in recent times, which his firm, in conjunction with Risk Control Academy has looked into and designed the programme to improve security and add values to security operations in Nigeria.

His words: “Security is a fast-developing area and some of the people coming into this industry do not have the proper background training needed to do the job.“It is becoming very glaring that the government cannot handle security alone as far as Nigeria is concerned and that is why the government security personnel should also partner with the private sector security in order to enhance the overall security in the country.”

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer, Risk Control, Femi Ajayi said there was a wide capacity gap in the security industry, stating that the collaboration between the two institutions would bridge the gap.He maintained that security personnel in Nigeria needs to be equipped with appropriate skills owing to the rise in new technologies, to be able to secure the valuable assets of businesses, government, and individuals.He said: “We know that security is everybody’s business and cannot be left to only the government alone. The programme identifies the core skills every security person in the managerial position must have.

“Skills to fight crimes like money laundering, trans-national crimes, electronic and cybersecurity crimes, security planning, and even reading a blueprint and floor plan among others.

“We hope that this partnership will identify the right individuals especially the young ones and give them a different mindset about security. There needs to be a paradigm shift from security for security guards to security as a professional career.”

Meanwhile, Ajayi noted that the partnership would create a pool of trained and skilled security personnel that can feed the manpower needs of government security agencies and is an opportunity for aspiring security managers to validate their competences.
