PHCCIMA appoints Membere-Otaji as president

The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) has confirmed the appointment of its first Deputy President, Emi Membere-Otaji as the President of the association.

The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture () has confirmed the appointment of its first Deputy President, Emi Membere-Otaji as the President of the association.

The incoming President of PHCCIMA, who is a medical doctor by profession, is also the Chairman of ELSHCON Nigeria Limited, an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation (EPCI) and marine services company.

Born on June 10, 1958 in Port Harcourt, Membere-Otaji attended Baptist Day School, Buguma (1964-1968); Township School, Port Harcourt (1968-1971), and Bpatist High School, Port Harcourt (1972-1976), before he proceeded to the College of Science and Technology also in Port Harcourt between 1976 and 1978.

He also graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, which he attended from 1978 to 1983.
Membere-Otaji also attended the Lagos Business School in 1993; and the Mcdonough School of Business, Georgetown, University of Washington DC in 2014.

He obtained a distinction in First School Leaving Certificate in 1971; Grade One in West African School Certificate in 1976 and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1983 from the University of Lagos.

The incoming PHCCIMA President also obtained a certificate in Corporate Governance (directors and boards: legal duties, ethics and performance) in 1993 and also undertook executive management programme in building leaders and capacity in the Nigerian oil and gas sector in 2014.

He has also harvested a number of awards and achievements, including National Co-ordinator, First ever Congress of Health Professionals in Nigeria in 2000; Fellow, Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria; Justice of Peace in 2002; Nigerian Institute of Management Award of Excellence in 2002; Fellow, Nigerian Medical Association, Rivers State; Exemplary Tour of Duty Award, Rivers State Ministry of Commerce and Industry in 2000; Fellow, Rivers College of Health Science and Technology in 2012 and Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management (chartered) in 2015.
