People living with disabilities laud Buhari over member’s appointment

The Federal Civil Service Staff with Disabilities Multi-purpose Cooperative Society has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing a visually impaired veterinary doctor, Samuel Inalegwu Ode Ankeli as his Senior Special Assistant, with responsibility for handling matters concerning persons living with disability.

The General Manager/ Chief Operating Officer of the society, Altine Kajiji, who gave the commendation at his inauguration in Abuja, said the development was first of its kind and would go a long way in solving many problems affecting the members nationwide.

The society urged state governors to borrow a leaf from President Buhari by also appointing people with disabilities as members of their cabinets.

He said: “President Buhari has demonstrated his disposition towards an all-inclusive government. While saluting your courage Mr. President, for breaking this jinx of neglect and denial, being the first, we look forward to having persons with disabilities appointed into the Federal Executive Council, Commissions, boards and other paralstatals of government.

Speaking further, he promised to encourage the relevant government sectors to provide incentives by way of implements and soft loans that will enhance the participation of people living with disabilities in both small and large-scale industrial activities.

In her address, the President of the society, Ms. Victoria Oni, assured the new general manager of the board’s cooperation as he strives to enhance the standard of living of its members.
“We further plead to entire generality of Nigeria to and international community to render all nessarity support to our new COO, she said.
