Obaseki, others bag ANEEJ OGP awards

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has bagged the prestigious gold award for championing an Open Government Partnership (OGP) in the state.Other awardees included Chief of Staff to the state governor, Taiwo Akerele, and Commissioner for Justice and State Attorney General, Mrs Yinka Omorogbe.
 
Presenting the award, Executive Director, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, (ANEEJ) Rev. David Ugolor said the OGP concept co-chaired by the group, was initiated in 2011 to secure concrete commitments from governments to their citizenry in a bid to promote transparency, fight corruption and citizens’ empowerment
 
Ugolor said by signing on to the initiative in 2018, Governor Obaseki has demonstrated that Edo being the a torchbearer of OGP in south-south states has shown sterling leadership qualities of transparency, accountability in governance.“His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Governor, Edo State is today being honoured in Gold category by the Board of management of ANEEJ as a frontline champion of Open Government in Nigeria”.

According to him, Governor Obaseki administration has shown commitments to the process of developing a state action plan, improve the state and her citizens and promote participation in government.In his response, Governor Obaseki represented by Head of Service, Barr. Isaac Ehiozuwa said the State government has always adhered strictly to the fiscal responsibility law and would not deviate from the practice.
