The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Sule Zakari has enphasised the need for members of the scheme currently undergoing orientation programmes across the country to focus on skill acquisition during the service year.

According to him, adopting basic crafts while serving will do them a whole lot of good, instead of expectation of white-collar jobs, which are no longer visible.

He stated this in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state, where crops members were undergoing the compulsory three weeks orientation.

Besides, he advised them to take advantage of the skills acquisition trainings currently being offered at the orientation camps across the country to become self -reliant.

He warned corps members, who would participate in September 10, 2016, Edo State governorship election not to be partisan, but display high level of patriotism.

He inspected facilities at the temporary orientation camp such as the clinic and hostel accommodations, warned the 1,614 corps members currently camped in Okada to respect the culture and tradition of the communities they will soon find themselves after posting.

“You know very well that Edo State will be going into election between August and September and some of you will be used by the INEC. I want you to be neutral and not partisan. Don’t be partial and involve yourselves in the local politics of your host communities.

“Respect the tradition and culture of your host communities. If they say they don’t want you to wear mini skirts, don’t wear it. Try to be ambassadors of your homes, ambassadors of the NYSC and your country, Nigeria.

“You should avoid unnecessary journey. You should avoid night parties. If you are traveling, travel in groups and don’t travel alone. Shine your eyes and be your brothers’ keeper”, he said.
