No fewer than eight executive committee members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Delta State branch, were suspended and divested of their various positions last year.

The branch Chairman of the NRCS, Prince Victor Olasupo made the disclosure while addressing members of the society at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Asaba. The affected officers were the NRCS Vice Chairman, (Mrs.) Rose Ikpokpo, Disaster Preparedness Relief Adviser, Mr. Vincent Ukpeto, Fund Raising Adviser, Mr. Edemu Emmanuel, and the Youth Adviser, Barr. Odiedi Marvel, Finance and Planning Adviser, Mr. Onyekeke Moses, Health Immune Virus (HIV) Coordinator, Mr. Azubuike Cyril Nwanchukwu and Eyamuke from the Uvwie Division.

Olasupo explained that the disciplinary action was predicated on the alleged failure of the affected officers to attend several meetings of the voluntary society, their display of ‘I don’t care attitude’ and involvement in other misconduct.

He disclosed that shortly after the suspension meeting held at Oleh, Isoko north Local Government Area of the state, another one was convened in Ethiope West Local Government Area where bye-elections where conducted to fill the vacant positions.

The NRCS Chairman noted that the AGM is an “occasion geared towards the formulation of new policies that will propel the wheel of the society for expansion and onward development”, adding that the event also features the ratification and approval of decisions taken by the executive committee as well showcase all activities of the society within the period under review.
