Kebbi pensioners bemoan unpaid N12b gratuities

The pensioners in Kebbi State have resorted to divine intervention for the payment of about N12 billion owed them by the state government.

The retired workers, under the aegis of the Kebbi State Retired Officers Welfare Association (KSROWA), who are mostly drawn from the state’s ministries, boards, parastatals, local government areas and local government education areas, have urged their members to intensify prayers and go into fasting.

Speaking recently in Birnin Kebbi, the Secretary of the Association, Abdu Muhammad said the association is aware and appreciates that the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates, the Pension Union Kebbi State are pursuing the settlement by the state government all outstanding pensions and gratuity.

‘’KSROWA acknowledged that NLC and the Pensioners Union have made headway in that effort and we have to continue on our part with yet additional three days fasting at individual’s convenience and as usual all beneficiaries are reminded to continue with the usual regular prayers to that effect.”

While asked its members as well as all beneficiaries to also give alms to the needy in order to speed up the process of the payment of their pension and gratuity.

“Our money is over N12billion and we heard that the state government is willing to pay only pay N5billion. We need serious prayers from the people of the state and Nigerians over the payment of our gratuities”, he lamented.
