JCI Ikeja to empower women, startups 

Junior Chamber International (JCI), Ikeja, has rolled out plans to alleviate poverty in Nigeria by 2030 through the Skill4her empowerment project for females in communities to generate income to cater for their immediate family.
 
The humanitarian organisation said the innovative enterprise seminar is another project put in place to inspire young business owners, startups and other entrepreneurs to increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
 
The 37th President, Tricia Inalu, who unveiled his plans for 2021, in Lagos, said others include the quality leadership value seminar, which will engage reputable quality leaders in the society to inspire young people to lead and solve community challenges through leadership skills.

Inalu added that the Commit2Health project, in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO), is aimed at giving people access to healthcare without the prospect of the financial implications.
 She explained further that the tech academy/talkathon project, which is a programming/coding boot camp for young students in the public secondary school, aims to teach them the basics of coding through real-world, hands-on software development training for a month.
 
She added that the project would allow them to pilot a five-year effort to effectively train young individuals in the area of programming, while seeking for partnership with organisations in the tech sector.
 
Inalu also said the courses and training for member capacity development already in place is to develop members, as the organisation has designed relevant curriculum to equip an all-round effective leader.
 
“We have adopted the Sustainable Development Goal (SDH) 2. From statistics, two billion people are expected to be undernourished by 2050. To contribute our quota in alleviating this scourge, we have projects targeted at the females in our society where we attach them to organizations to learn skills that can in turn generate income for them to cater for their immediate family. It is believed that when you empower a woman, you have empowered a nation,” she added.
